River Front Park
Located next to the Kaw River in North Lawrence, Riverfront park offers a hiking trail, dog park, and disc golf course. The disc golf course was installed in 2005 and was designed by the City of Lawrence and Nate Marshall. Because of the proximity to the river, during the Summer the thick brush and robust bug population lead to some unforgiving conditions. However, during the fall, winter, and early spring this course offers an interesting and unique design.
There are nine natural tee pads but two baskets for each tee to offer a full 18 holes. No tee signs or concrete tee pads have been installed yet, but on each hole a wooden curb denotes the tee and includes numbers to indicate which basket is on each side of the fairway. There is a sign on hole one that denotes the layout of the course but UDisc could be very helpful for people new to the design.
Although this course does not quite have the complexity of Bob Mowery’s, or the distance of Centennial, there are a fair number of tightly wooded holes which are definitely interesting and challenging along with some longer distance shots. Overall, a super fun course to play when the conditions are right and definitely worth checking out.
